DOG FRIENDLY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PLUMBER: SEAN PATRICK ALVEY
Ace Plumbing and Rooter

Sean Jones

The owner of the pit bulls that mauled Sean Jones is an irresponsible dog owner and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for the damage his dogs have done. A responsible dog owner obedience trains, controls, provides exercise and play for their dogs, does not BREED their dogs unless they are professional trainers/professional show competitors and NEVER lets their dog roam unsupervised. A responsible dog owner knows they are accountable for the behavior of their dog and therefore makes sure the dog is a Canine Good Citizen through obedience training and socialization.

(from www.bayinsider.com)(RICHMOND)--Shawn Jones, the 10-year-old boy mauled to the edge of life by pit bulls, faced an uphill road to recovery as local law authorities continued the search for the animals on Friday. Shawn was listed in critical but stable condition at Children's Hospital Oakland, where he is on a breathing machine, according to hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Romanov.

The dogs tore off his ears during the Monday evening attack. Other wounds on his face, neck and arms are so severe, doctors said they have not been able to close many of them. Shawn rested Friday with family and hospital personnel at his side. "We are in the throes right now of trying to save this boy's life," said Dr. James Betts, chief of surgery at the hospital. The dogs shook him violently, "like a doll," Betts added. Shawn continues to receive rabies shots because two of the three dogs have not been captured and therefore cannot be tested for the disease.

Benjamin Moore, 27, the dogs' owner was charged Thursday with attempting to hide the three pit bull terriers that brutally mauled Shawn as he rode a new bicycle he had been given for doing well in school. Moore was being held on $30,000 bail, reduced from the $50,000 set Thursday. His girlfriend, Jacinda Knight, 33, was released from custody Thursday after authorities decided not to charge her.

One of the dogs responsible for the attack was recovered, but two remain on the loose. Police believe Moore hid those dogs. Contra Costa County officials have not decided whether to destroy the recovered dog currently being held at an animal shelter in Pinole. Animal officials had a tough time corralling the dog once they found it. For now, police seem inclined to keep the dog alive because it could be tested to see whether it had been trained to attack humans, Richmond Police Department Sgt. Enos Johnson said. "It could show through testing and through examination that the dog was aggressive in social behavior," Johnson said. "It could show any scars from previous fights."

A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the seizure of the other dogs.

The public has been offering donations to help Shawn's family. A trust fund has been set up at a Richmond bank, as well as a separate fund where 100 percent of proceeds go directly to aid the Jones family. A manager at the Richmond branch of The Mechanics Bank would not say how much has been donated. One San Francisco Bay area radio station began taking donations for Shawn's family Friday morning by auctioning concert tickets and autographed CDs. The auction items ran out quickly, but calls and cash pledges continued, reaching $12,000 by noon.

Oakland Pound has new facilities, but still a kill "shelter." !!

JANUARY 1, 2000: The Oakland Pound (Animal Control) is now settled in its new facility at 1101-29th Avenue, Oakland, CA (2 blocks from E 14th and 29th Ave) and has many dogs and cats that need good homes. Please visit Virtual Pet Adoption and in the SHELTER pull down list, click on "OAKLAND ANIMAL SHELTER" and in TYPES OF PETS, click on "DOGS" to see dogs at the Oakland pound that will be killed if they are not adopted or fostered SOON. Contact the Oakland Pound facility at 510-535-5605 after 12pm (closed Sunday) to ADOPT one of the VIRTUAL PET ADOPTION dogs. The Oakland Pound does not always photograph and post all of the dogs they have in the adoption area (19 cages) so go in and visit.

Who We Are

We are a virtual adoption, referral and counseling bridge supporting individuals who seek an alternative to surrendering their dogs/cats to animal control. Good Homes provides web adoption presence for dogs and cats primarily in the San Franciso Bay Area. The animals posted here were either rescued as strays by individuals who foster them until a permanent home is found or they would be at risk for euthanasia if surrendered to animal control due to untenable living conditions with their owners and are in foster care homes found by the former owners. Good Homes for Rescued Pets is advancing the NO KILL NATION goal that includes responsible ownership and mandatory professional dog obedience training to ensure the safety and longevity of the dog.

Adopting a Friend

First, read about what is needed to care for a dog or cat by going to Drs. Foster and Smith Pet Education. Once you know what kind of temperament, time, space and exercise requirements a particular breed or mix may need, and if you will make the commitment to get the whole family learning dog obedience training/cat scratching post training, start looking for a dog or cat. A puppy/kitten is not good for a household that can't devote a lot of time to the care and training of a baby dog/cat. An adult dog/cat is a better choice. Dogs/cats and puppies/kittens are not substitute stuffed toys for small children who haven't the physiological development to tell the difference between a live creature and a stuffed toy, or who can't yet understand the logic and importance of treating a living creature with respect and not abusing it by mauling it as they attempt to express their affection for the pet. Once you understand how to be a RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER, start to look for your future canine/feline family member by checking out adoption web pages. You can do a zip code search by going to Petfinder.. You can also see available dogs in San Francisco at ROCKET DOG RESCUE.

There are so many lovable cats and dogs that need homes because they were surrendered or abandoned by their guardians or they were feral cats that have been socialized. Open your heart and your home to one of these vibrant souls who need a human to help them survive.

Volunteering and Donations

Local rescue groups are desperately seeking good foster homes. A foster care volunteer will be supplied with food, supplies and instructions/support as per the policy of each rescue group. As a foster home, you take care of the pet until it has a permanent guardian. You supply the stable environment, training, love and affection so that the pet is ready for a new home. Of course, if you want to become the permanent home, we can arrange that too!

Come Visit Us!

There are no facilities as all pets are in foster care homes. See the contact info for each dog/cat that is posted.
